Join the team

Volunteer with Spectrum People to support local people.

Through volunteering you can support Spectrum People in a range of activities, events, and services in your local and wider community. This includes placements for students who need such opportunities as part of their qualification.

You can be part of a diverse team of volunteers who bring different skills, attributes and lived experience to Spectrum People and the community.

There are a range of unpaid roles you can apply for within our charity. If there’s a role you may be interested in, or if you think you have skills/experiences which would benefit us as a charity, please contact us on spectrumpeople@spectrum-cic.nhs.uk.

What attributes do we look for in our volunteers?

  • Friendly, polite and passionate
  • Prepared to work with a variety of people with differing needs
  • Keen to communicate and engage with people from a variety of social backgrounds
  • Determined to develop teamwork skills
  • Willing to work to the charity’s policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Keen to use their own skills and experiences to help others
  • Willing to be part of our positive, promotional communication

Tasks can include:

  • Suggesting and potentially developing new activities, usually around the arts and green space. But we are always open to new ideas
  • Attending and giving input at group and discussion sessions
  • Being a link in communicating with those we support, and members of the public
  • Helping organise and co-ordinate events
  • Getting involved with Appletree Community Garden including giving tours, planting and much more

What our volunteers say

Spectrum People general volunteer aged 80,

“I volunteer for Spectrum People so that I can help others. It makes me feel good and gets me out of the house and keeps me active.”

Appletree community garden volunteer aged 23,

“I have really improved my communication skills and pushed myself to do things. My social anxiety has meant I’ve struggled to get out of the house, and so volunteering at Appletree has given me a reason to get out and has opened up possibilities of being able to now go to others places.”
