Are you looking for a friendly and welcoming space where you can connect with others and find support for your mental health and wellbeing? Spectrum People is here for you, offering a wide range of services designed to help you thrive (no diagnosis is required).

We understand that life can present many challenges, and sometimes, you just need a place to talk or a little extra help.  You’ll find a listening ear and can receive information, advice, guidance, and signposting, along with practical help to solve problems.

We are committed to doing our best to support you with anything that is having a negative impact on your mental health. If we can’t directly assist with a specific issue, we will signpost and support you to access a service that can help.

Support for Your Mental Health

Our groups and support sessions are open to everyone, providing a safe and non-judgmental space where you can drop in for a cuppa, catch up with others, and meet new people.

Our approach is built around the 5 Ways to Wellbeing: encouraging you to Connect with others, Take Note of your surroundings, Be Active, Give back to the community, and Keep Learning.  This holistic approach allows us to support you with various aspects of your life that might be impacting your mental health.

Arts & Crafts Group

This group provides a space for creative expression through various activities such as making felt ornaments, string art, card making, painting and colouring. Members are welcome to bring their own creative projects or simply join for a cuppa and a chat, fostering creativity, engagement, and new friendships.

Community Support Sessions (Drop-in Groups)

These sessions offer a safe and non-judgmental space for individuals to drop in for a cuppa, catch up with others, and meet new people. Attendees can receive information, advice, guidance, signposting, a listening ear, and practical help to solve problems, with staff ensuring their wellbeing.

Computer Group

This group offers assistance with technology-related tasks, such as completing application forms or setting up new mobile phones. The facilitators are always ready to help individuals with their queries, supporting the Keep Learning way to wellbeing by building confidence and self-esteem.

Cook & Eat Group

Members of this group come together to cook, bake, chat, and learn how to prepare meals on a budget. They receive recipes to take home and eat and share their creations, which fosters a strong sense of community and belonging while helping them gain new cooking skills.

Craft & Chinwag

This group combines craft activities with social conversation, providing a relaxed environment for individuals to engage in creative pursuits while chatting and connecting with others.

Creative Writing Group

This group provides an opportunity for individuals to share their stories, poems, and ideas in a supportive environment. It serves as a way of escaping and engaging in new activities, which supports the Keep Learning way to wellbeing.  You might even get your work published in our Footsteps Forward Newsletter!

Games Group

This is your chance to socialise, chat, and have fun through simple games like quizzes, cards, and dominoes. It helps participants get out of the house and enjoy connecting with others.

HOPE Group

Focused on positive mental health, this peer support group provides a safe space for members to discuss their feelings and coping strategies, helping them realise they are not alone in their struggles. The group supports members in gaining self-esteem and confidence, even encouraging participation in outings and volunteering.

Lego Cafe

This group is a social gathering centered around Lego activities, promoting creativity and engagement. It aligns with the “Keep Learning” and “Connect” ways to wellbeing.

Morning Meet Up

This session provides an opportunity for individuals to gather in the morning, offering a chance to connect with others and socialise. It’s designed as a safe space for people to drop in for a cuppa and meet new people, helping participants get out and engage with their community.

Newmillerdam Walking Group

This group enjoys pleasant strolls around Newmillerdam Country Park, suitable for all abilities. Participants walk around the lake, stopping to chat and enjoy the fresh air and nature, which benefits their health and wellbeing. The group often concludes with a social visit to a local café.

Newsletter Group

This group is responsible for the production of the community newsletter “Footsteps Forward. Members contribute to creating content and collaborate on the publication, with sessions often held online.

Tieve Time

This group session, held at a medical centre, provides a supportive environment for social interaction and wellbeing. It offers a space for individuals to chat and receive a listening ear in a relaxed setting, encouraging connection and engagement.

How to Join Us

You do not need a formal diagnosis to access our services. Our support is for anyone who considers themselves to have a mental health support need.

If you're interested in any of our groups, it's easy to join us:

1. Contact us via email or telephone for a friendly informal chat.
2. We will then support you to attend a group and complete a short form with you.
